In Debt We Trust…

Debt, that stranglehold around our finances as well as the cause of sleepless nights and daily worries for many of us, doesn’t look as if it will be going away anytime, soon, for us or the global economy! So what should we do about it? We should get financially educated, because financial education is the only way to combat the debilitating state ’debt’ creates for many of us. We need to increase our knowledge of debt in order to overcome our fear of it.
Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, who I mention a lot here on Becoming Financially, writes “Without Financial Education, your money flows to those who profit most from your financial ignorance.’
He also talks about how debt and taxes can be a positive thing. For more information on this click here. His reason is, in the words of Albert Einstein “You cannot solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it. You must learn to see the world anew.” If you don’t then those who do, in Robert’s opinion, will have unlimited opportunity in the next few years of financial crisis, whilst those who don’t will be wiped out.
I write the above because I want you to realise that to a certain extent it is not entirely your fault that we are in the predicament we are in! This does not mean we should shirk our responsibility regarding paying our debts back, but neither should we beat ourselves up over it; lose our marriage and families over it; and most certainly not kill ourselves over it!
I came across this documentary film called ‘In Debt We Trust’ by Danny Schechter, yesterdaywhich is just brillant and is something parents, university students and graduates, in particular, should definitly watch. I doubt Credit Card companies are being so agressive in dishing out ‘credit’ disguised as future long-term debt these days, what with the current global economy being what it is! But even so the points highlighted in this film below, are still relevant, regardless. Enjoy! And start becoming (more) financially savvy!
