Debt, that stranglehold around our finances as well as the cause of sleepless nights and daily worries for many of us, doesn’t look as if it will be going away anytime, soon, for us or the global economy!

So what should we do about it? We should get financially educated, because financial education is the only way to combat the debilitating state ’debt’ creates for many of us. We need to increase our knowledge of debt in order to overcome our fear of it.

Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad, Poor Dad, who I mention a lot here on Becoming Financially, writes “Without Financial Education, your money flows to those who profit most from your financial ignorance.’

He also talks about how debt and taxes can be a positive thing. For more information on this click here.  His reason is, in the words of Albert Einstein “You cannot solve a problem from the same consciousness that created it. You must learn to see the world anew.” If you don’t then those who do, in Robert’s opinion, will have unlimited opportunity in the next few years of financial crisis, whilst those who don’t will be wiped out.

I write the above because I want you to realise that to a certain extent it is not entirely your fault that we are in the predicament we are in!  This does not mean we should shirk our responsibility regarding paying our debts back, but neither should we beat ourselves up over it; lose our marriage and families over it; and most certainly not kill ourselves over it!

I came across this documentary film called ‘In Debt We Trust’ by Danny Schechter, yesterdaywhich is just brillant and is something parents, university students and graduates, in particular, should definitly watch. I doubt Credit Card companies are being so agressive in dishing out ‘credit’ disguised as future long-term debt these days, what with the current global economy being what it is! But even so the points highlighted in this film below, are still relevant, regardless.  Enjoy! And start becoming (more) financially savvy!

    Hey Lavinia,

Thanks for the insight. The whole system is massively corrupt and yes, for those who are financially unaware, their money will flow to those who are.

Every dollar that’s in existence today is debt that has to be paid back with interest. That means the national debt can never be paid off. Strangely enough, we can only become more prosperous through debt these days – it just requires financial awareness.

    Take care,

    Wayne

Hi Lavinia, just wondered if you have ever watched the documentary movie series “Zeitgeist” (available from http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/), which explores amongst other things, the way that money is created – basically on debt from the word go. It is a very controversial but interesting and eye-opening docu-movie, and not for the faint-hearted!
Thanks again for your interesting articles.
    Regards, Kathy Wilson

    Hi Kathy,
Thank you for your comment and your ongoing support.
I am actually used a video of the Zeitgeist in one of my earlier post; and yes when I first watched it I found it a real eye opener! As well as mouth opener (as in shocked)! One of the terms that really struck and stayed with me was ‘Economic Hitman’. Honestly if all what he said is true then the USA, and the World for allowing them to get away with it, are simply eating the fruits of their labour! :(
